【相撲】Waseda Summer Session参加留学生が相撲部の稽古を体験

　早大留学センター主催の短期留学生受け入れプログラム「Waseda Summer Session」の一環として、留学生を対象とした相撲部の練習見学・体験会が行われた。本プログラムでは日本文化を体験する機会が多数設けられており、今回は相撲部の協力のもと、約15人の留学生が日本の伝統スポーツである相撲について学んだ。

　東伏見キャンパスの相撲道場では、まず部員たちの普段の練習を見学。厳かな雰囲気の中で行われる稽古に、留学生や引率スタッフも関心を寄せていた。その後は留学生も土俵へ上がり、体験会を実施。内田京汰主将（社４＝静岡・飛龍）、剣持京吾（スポ４＝神奈川・光陵）、成松孝信（スポ１＝東京・武蔵）ら部員の指導を受けながら、四股やすり足の姿勢、土俵での作法を学んだ。

その後は部員との稽古や組み合いを体験する時間も設けられ、会場は終始活気に包まれた。最後には質問コーナーも実施。普段の稽古や食事、大相撲についてなど多岐にわたる質問が飛び交い、部員と留学生の間では活発な交流が繰り広げられた。

約２時間という短い時間ながら、日本の相撲文化に親しんだ留学生たち。見学会終了後には「楽しかった」との声が多く聞かれ、競技や早大体育各部の活動への関心を深めた様子もうかがえた。留学プログラムが充実する早大ならではの、体育各部を通じた異文化交流の取り組みが今後さらに広がることに期待したい。

About 15 international students participated in a visit to the Waseda University Sumo Club as part of Waseda Summer Session (WSS), a short-term program for international students. WSS offers various opportunities to experience Japanese culture, and this event introduced participants to the traditions of sumo, one of Japan’s traditional sports.

The students first observed the club’s regular practice and experienced the disciplined atmosphere of sumo. Afterwards, club members hosted a mini practice session, where the participants learned the manners, postures, and basic movements performed inside the dohyo, or sumo ring.

The students also had the opportunity to try sumo bouts with club members and participate in a Q&A session, where they learned more about sumo culture and Waseda’s athletic clubs. Many participants expressed their enjoyment and appreciation for the opportunity to interact with the club members. The event served as a valuable opportunity for cultural exchange between international students and Waseda athletics, and it is hoped that similar opportunities for cultural exchange will continue in the future.
